So you're relocating to a new area and you don't know anyone where you're moving. That can be scary or exciting depending on how you look at it.
Look, I know you're an adult and you know how to meet people. I wanted to help by giving you a few ideas on what you can do to meet people more quickly.
Hi, I'm Tami Savage with eXp Realty.
If you've relocated to a city where there are a lot of new people coming in, they probably feel the same as you do and wanna meet new people too, so try not to overthink it.
Introducing yourself to the people next door or your new neighbors can seem a little awkward at first, but it helps you get some local insight on your new location, and possibly make some new friends.
Talk to your new coworkers if you're starting at a new job.
If you're relocating away from family, building a support network of new friends and neighbors will help you fight loneliness.
Make sure, if you have children and/or pets, be sure they are familiar with their new surroundings as well.
And now that you've settled in and unpacked, met your new neighbors, and discovered what is around your new home, now it's time to get involved in your new community.
Join a gym or church, find clubs of things you like to do, like kayaking, paddle boarding, boating, or a book club.
The great thing about living in Florida is there is an endless list of things to go see and do.
And if you're a Jeeper, we have several Jeep clubs here in Tampa Bay area as well.
A couple of ways I find things in a new area or even not so new area are through Facebook Events or Meetup.com.
Consider volunteering at a retirement home, animal shelter, or another non-profit, and make a difference in someone else's life.
Just getting out there and exploring your new area will help you feel like a local and avoid homesickness.
If you've got children, think about sports or activities you can enroll them in so they can start to enjoy their new community too, and have an easier time in making new friends. And the bonus is you get to meet parents and make friends yourself.
Perhaps, you host a neighborhood meet and greet for families with kids.
There are so many ways to meet new people and it doesn't have to be weird. Most likely, the people you are meeting are in the same boat as you and will be thrilled you reached out.
