Last night I was watching a bit of TV and noticed this Apple iPad commercial, have you seen it?
If you know me you know I'm not really an Apple fan, that's not to say I don't think they're good for you or other people, they're just not for me.
Regardless, with that said … this commercial was great at marketing!
This one-liner …
This insinuates that iPad (which is an iOS device) can't get viruses. This is NOT true!!! Please do not believe you are safe just because you use an iOS device.
This fallacy drives me nuts!
Question … if you were a hacker and you have an opportunity to impact the majority or the minority, which do you choose? Seriously!
According to NetMarketShare.com
- Desktop Stats
- Windows = 91.42%
- Mac = 6.32%
- Linux = 2.27%
- Mobility Stats
- Android = 63.92%
- Mac/iOS = 32.02%
- Windows = 1.47%
- Java, Symbian, & Blackberry = 2.47%
Again, if you are trying to do the most damage, what would be your target?
That does NOT mean that Mac/iOS devices do NOT get viruses, it just means that the majority do not hit these devices.
Long story short … regardless of marketing, protect yourself, it's YOUR responsibility (especially as a business owner)! 🙂
